The Nusa Dua, October 20,2026 - The trust of the global internet community in selecting Bali as the host destination for the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting marks a strategic opportunity for InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to strengthen The Nusa Dua’s position as a world-class Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) destination. Taking place from October 17–22, 2026, at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC), The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, this international forum brings together the global internet community to discuss internet governance while expanding opportunities for collaboration and tourism-driven economic growth in the area.
ICANN87 is an annual meeting organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), with the Indonesian Domain Name Administrator (PANDI) serving as the local host. The forum addresses various strategic issues related to global internet governance, the security and stability of the domain name system, and developments within the digital ecosystem. Hosting the event in Bali provides Indonesia with an opportunity to strengthen its role in the international digital ecosystem while introducing the country’s tourism potential to the global community.
General Manager of The Nusa Dua, I Made Agus Dwiatmika, stated that hosting an international forum such as ICANN87 presents an opportunity to strengthen global exposure while demonstrating The Nusa Dua’s capacity to accommodate international-scale events.
“The hosting of ICANN87 provides The Nusa Dua with an opportunity to strengthen its international exposure while demonstrating the area’s capacity to accommodate global forums. For us, MICE development is not merely about hosting large-scale events, but also about building a destination ecosystem that connects international business activities with Bali’s outstanding facilities, services, and tourism experiences,” he said.
According to information received from the organizers, the event is expected to attract approximately 1,500 participants, excluding VIP guests who will also be in attendance. Several central and regional government officials are also scheduled to attend, including Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Viada Hafid; Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon; and Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster. Their attendance is expected to enhance the event’s strategic significance while strengthening coordination and collaboration among the central government, regional government, and relevant stakeholders to support the successful execution of the event.
As the area manager, ITDC ensures infrastructure readiness, maintains the quality of the destination environment, and coordinates with stakeholders to support the smooth execution of ICANN87. These efforts reflect ITDC’s commitment to maintaining service standards and strengthening The Nusa Dua’s competitiveness as an integrated tourism destination capable of accommodating the needs of international events.
The Nusa Dua’s Tourism Performance Shows Positive Growth
The development of the MICE sector at The Nusa Dua is supported by the area’s positive tourism performance. Based on cumulative data from January to September 2026, The Nusa Dua recorded 363,621 visits, representing a 2.87% increase compared with the same period in 2025, when the area recorded 353,482 visits.
Accommodation performance has also shown positive developments. Hotel occupancy reached 84.42% in September 2026, an increase of 0.61 percentage points compared with September 2025, when occupancy stood at 83.81%. Meanwhile, the Average Length of Stay (ALOS) increased from 2.64 nights in September 2025 to 2.92 nights in September 2026. This increase in length of stay creates opportunities to optimize tourist spending through culinary services, transportation, recreation, and various other tourism activities.
In terms of source markets, Australia remains the leading contributor to international tourist arrivals at The Nusa Dua, followed by other international markets and domestic tourists. This diversity of source markets serves as an important asset in maintaining the area’s appeal and strengthening the resilience of the tourism industry amid fluctuating demand.
Agus Dwiatmika emphasized that tourism growth must be accompanied by destination management strategies focused on long-term economic value.
“Going forward, ITDC will continue to strengthen collaboration with hotel operators, event organizers, the government, and business players to maximize MICE opportunities. We aim to ensure that increased activity at The Nusa Dua goes hand in hand with improved service quality, enhanced visitor experiences, and greater business opportunities for local communities,” he added.
Strengthening MICE Competitiveness Through Integrated Destination Management
As one of Indonesia’s leading integrated tourism destinations, The Nusa Dua is supported by accommodation facilities, meeting infrastructure, and a destination environment conducive to hosting events at both national and international levels. This combination provides a strategic foundation for attracting conferences, business meetings, and various global events that can generate broader economic activity within the tourism sector.
ITDC continues to promote destination management that prioritizes service quality, cross-stakeholder coordination, and destination sustainability. Through collaboration with hotel operators (tenants), event organizers, the government, and business players, ITDC seeks to ensure that the development of MICE activities aligns with improvements in destination quality and delivers economic benefits to various stakeholders.
Through the hosting of ICANN87 and continued improvements in the area’s performance, ITDC is optimistic that The Nusa Dua will continue to develop as one of Indonesia’s leading MICE destinations. These efforts are expected not only to strengthen Bali’s tourism competitiveness on the global stage but also to generate sustainable economic value for the tourism industry and local businesses.
